     Dr. R. Sathishkumar holds Professorship since April 2018. He joined the Department of Biotechnology, Bharathiar University in the year 2005 as Assistant Professor with an expertise in Plant Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering. Dr. Sathishkumar holds Ph.D from School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. During his Ph.D, he was awarded DAAD short-term fellowship to work at Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology, Golm, Germany. Later, he joined as a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Botany, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, where he gained expertise in Plant Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering. At Bharathiar University he established the “Plant Genetic Engineering Laboratory”. Group’s research focus is on Metabolic Engineering, Molecular Farming and DNA Barcoding. Dr. Sathishkumar is a recipient of several awards and honours. Recently, he has been nominated as Fellow of Academy of Sciences, Chennai. He received various fellowships and awards from DST, CSIR, DAAD and UKIERI. He was awarded full travel bursary continuously three times to deliver an invited talk in International Conference on Barcode of Life, Mexico, China and in Canada. He had delivered many invited talks in various institutions in India. He is serving as member of the editorial board and reviewer for many National and International journals. Till date, lab has mentored 3 PDFs, supervised 15 Ph.D’s and 21 M.Phil.,currently there are 3 Post-Doctoral Fellows, 8Ph.Ds, 2 M.Phil., and 3 M.Sc. project students in the lab. At University level, he is an Coordinator, DST-PURSE Phase II project (17.25 crores), Government of India and Local Coordinator, GIAN Program, MHRD, Government of India.

1. Awarded the best report by Central Pollution Control Board, India on “Heavy metal pollution and its effects on human health and remedial measures” on March 4, 1991.
2. Best poster award on “Regulatory role of membrane lipids in growth and differentiation responses of rice cultures”, In: “Annual meeting of the Society of Biological Chemists” held at Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, during December 19-22.
Awarded third prize in poster competition on “Plant Tissue Culture” in “National Science Day Celebrations” organized by School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai on February 28, 1995.
